The Faces Behind North American Trade Are Coming to Laredo

When headlines talk about USMCA, tariffs, customs enforcement, nearshoring, or supply chains, most people see policy.

What they don’t see are the experts behind the policy.

This July, the Port Laredo Global Trade Summit brings some of North America’s leading trade minds to the region at one of the most important moments in the history of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

As the USMCA enters its critical six-year review period, decisions made in Washington, Mexico City, and Ottawa will directly impact trade flows moving through Port Laredo, the nation’s largest inland port.

That makes this conversation more than timely. It makes it essential.

Diego Marroquín

Senior Fellow, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)

Named one of Grupo Milenio’s Top North American Thought Leaders of 2025, Diego Marroquín is one of the hemisphere’s leading experts on USMCA and North American economic integration.

He created the widely recognized USMCA Tracker and USMCA Scorecard, tools used by governments, businesses, and media organizations to monitor the agreement’s implementation.

As the six-year review begins attracting international attention, Marroquín will provide a strategic briefing on what the review means for trade, investment, compliance, and the future of North American competitiveness.

Gustavo Uruchurtu

President, CENCOMEX Mexico

Before entering private practice, Gustavo Uruchurtu represented the Government of Mexico before the World Trade Organization and NAFTA dispute settlement panels.

He participated directly in negotiations involving NAFTA and other free trade agreements and handled antidumping and subsidy investigations for Mexico’s Ministry of Economy.

Few individuals have had a closer view of how trade disputes are resolved between nations and how trade agreements evolve over time.

Peter Quinter

Shareholder, Gunster’s U.S. Customs & International Trade Law Group

A former U.S. Customs official and one of America’s most respected customs and international trade attorneys, Peter Quinter has spent more than three decades advising companies navigating customs compliance, enforcement actions, and cross-border trade regulations.

His perspective bridges policy and real-world business operations, helping organizations understand how trade rules are actually applied at ports of entry every day.

Why This Matters to Laredo

Port Laredo handles more international trade than any other inland port in the United States.

The policies being debated today will influence supply chains, customs operations, manufacturing investments, transportation networks, and economic development opportunities throughout the region.

For business leaders, customs brokers, manufacturers, logistics providers, economic developers, and policymakers, this is an opportunity to hear directly from the people helping shape the future of North American trade.

Not after the decisions are made.

While the conversation is happening.

The future of North American trade will be debated in boardrooms, capitals, and policy circles across the continent. This July, part of that conversation will happen in Laredo.
